[Submissions Closed] Issue 3: HAUNT (1 March – 31 May)
A girl stumbles into a hall of mirrors and is assaulted by a doppelganger, eventually to live a life haunted by her Jungian shadow. In Jordan Peele’s Us (2019), vestiges lurk in every corner; those we have known and the things we have done resurface one way or another.
But it is also 1986 and Reaganism is in the air. Beyond the personal, the spectre of politics and culture looms large in the backdrop. What else colours our lives today, casting a long shadow across our everyday routines? In a polarised world, what we fear takes on many guises: a laugh, a symbol, a fleeting sneer on a stranger’s face.
For the third issue of sploosh!, send us a haunting. Write about the forces that disturb you in the day or keep you up at night. Aim a torchlight squarely at the recesses of the mind or what’s lurking in the corner of your eyes. We want works that linger, fixate, possess.
